About CJA

Climate Justice Aotearoa is a New Zealand based collective committed to advancing social and ecological justice in the context of a world teetering on the brink ecological destabilisation. Climate Justice Aotearoa recognises that climate change has the potential to link seemingly separated issues and seemingly seperated communities not just as victims, but as people fighting for a better world, together.

We aim to:

  • provide analysis on climate change issues from a social justice perspective that critiques climate change related greenwash in Aotearoa
  • sharpen people’s understanding of, and ability to address, the root social, ecological, political and economic causes of the climate crisis
  • discover what ‘climate justice’ means to people of the Pacific and support those living on the frontlines of the problem who wish to develop and implement their own understanding of, and strategies for realising climate justice
  • link New Zealanders living and fighting on the front lines of climate change with their counterparts overseas, building global solidarity between those most severely affected by climate change and its root causes
  • promote and strengthen the rights and voices of these peoples in addressing the climate crisis, and give visibility to already existing and inspiring localised initiatives successfully addressing the climate crisis that all too often go unnoticed

Our organisation is committed to working with respect, trust and unity with others towards the realisation of these goals

At present the main avenues of our work consist of

  • Communication of climate justice issues in Aotearoa through the Climate Justice Aotearoa blog, media work, providing informational resources and making links with those on the front lines of the fight for climate justice
  • Education: We hold workshops and presentations for any interested groups on climate justice and climate justice issues.  If you would like to have us come and speak to your group email us!
  • Research: We are currently involved in researching climate justice issues in Aotearoa and false solutions being pushed forward in order to better equip the climate change movement with information for making decisions regarding their future

There is so much more we wish to do. You can help us carry out our work by donating here.
